Blog Wagon of Pinterest

Do I dare begin to jump on the blog-wagon of Pinterest?  I am a consultant and kids room designer.   I mean really what do I know?  Very little and believe me there is no shame in how little I know.  I have been over at twitter learning the ropes of Social Media.  All the while finding my own way through trial and error.   It’s only recently I even had a website.  Many have been writing in their blogs about Pinterest. Does it have staying power? How effective is it really?  Is it all hype just like any new toy?  Who wants to play with the new toy?  How will the new toy perform?    It’s kind of ridiculous how much attention this new toy is getting.

I stumbled onto Pinterest by way of an invite.  I did not have much motivation to to really get started with it.  I had my account set up and it sat for a month or so.   One evening, late, I jumped in with both feet.  Starting what I am calling a  very slow launch of www.hungouttobuy.com I thought it might be helpful if I threw up some pictures on the Pinterest board.  I mean it could not hurt.  The pinning began. My family was a bit concerned that their mother, who sits very little, was in one place for a few hours during a family movie with computer in hand.

I am a kids room designer, so naturally my boards would be set up like a designer of kids rooms.  Within a few hours my boards were laid out how I thought I would like them to represent my company. In neat orderly, kids room, fashion and form.  Dawn, my business partner agreed that all looked very nice.  The next morning I checked my Hung Out To Buy email and my inbox was flooded with crazy emails I had never seen. Pages of those who did what?  Pinned my pictures.  What the heck does that mean.  Back to reading all the fine print. Oh, I get it now it’s not just a looky and see kind of place. It’s a looky, see and grab kind of place.  Oh now I stepped into it. We women, love to look, love to see, and love to grab.  I don’t mean this disrespectfully in any way.  Have you ever stood over a handbag sale at Nordroms? If you have. you know exactly what I am talking about.

That fact that others were pinning the pictures I chose for a specific board was like a huge compliment. Good job kids room designer.  Then the next flash of surprise. My website   had over 126 visits within an hour of my boards being set up. My website?  Really?  You mean Pinterest will send people to my website. Not this website the one in which I write from, but to www.hungouttobuy.com  Now my learning curve is faster than most, and this I did not get or see coming.  A slow launch with our website simply means we are up and running, and slowly adding our merchandise and really want to let people know we are a small kids room boutique so stop by and say hi.  Imagine right now, if you have a business and 126 people within an hour just stopped in to say hi.  I get that we are knew and that those 126 people are not going to drop money the first sight of a new business. We have to get to know our clients and earn their trust that our products are worth buying.  The reality is that they stopped in, directly from that crazy place called Pinterest. Crazy? Not as in straight jacket crazy, but as in this new Social Media is in fact doing a great job for our company. Dawn and I are so happy with it’s results.

I am not sure how effective it will be for all business. I am a visually based business. As a designer, especially one on the web,  any future client has to see that I know how to make colors work together.  My clients have to trust that I am who I say I am and actions do speak louder than words. My actions are in my pictures on these boards, because a designer is dependent on what our customer’s see and love.

I am quite pleased with this new toy. Even more pleased that I have learned how to navigate yet another effective tool for growing the awareness of Hung Out To Buy.   It will have staying power for me as long as people keep looking in and then coming by to say hello.  Isn’t that the first step into new business a polite hello?  I just had to jump onto the Blog Wagon of Pinterest

Daily Life
I have always loved wet spring days in the #northwest. Calming and soothing to my soul. Rainy days slow me down. Looking out the window and sipping my coffee when I should be racing out the door. Thank you God for rain, for blossoms, and this day. #prettyinpink This picture taken from my doorstep w/Mayfair filture. #Farmlifewithcones Time to bring #BeanieBabies back. Raise your hand if you have a gazillion stashed away. When the going gets tough then time for a 🍪 and coffee. Sunday morning bonding with the 14 year old watching baseball. But really drinking a big cup of coffee and staring at the screen. #HappySunday #baseball #traubboys
