Color Story May 2, 2021

Adding layers of color and being patient to dry before adding the next layer.

Some days are full of trial and error. Today was one of those days. In playing with colors, mixing colors, waiting for paint to dry before adding more layers and then trying to figure out what work to promote or share I find there is ALOT of stress in that process for many. I hope in reading this blog you can release that stress and have fun with the God given gifts God has given you. Create, paint, enjoy yourself.

I can see this piece, large scaled in an office or family room.

What if in your trial and error you created a beautiful artful story about your process? Something that I have learned as a designer, even as a brand and marketing consultant is truly, “TO EACH HIS/HER OWN”. Here is a short story.

Many years ago I painted white tulips on a very large canvas. 48″x48″. I chose four colors and wanted to see how long it would take to fill the space. I chose Tulips because they were, and still are, my favorite flowers. And the lines are very easy for a large scale canvas. The piece took me two weeks of working about 2 hours a day. When it was finished I thought it looked good. Loose lines, easy colors and now what? I had one of my deliver drivers come and and pick up from my house and take it to my store.

Experimenting and seeing the dark/light blends of colors.

My sales staff rolled their eyes. They were not impressed and I think that it was very different than any other piece I had ever painted and the largest piece. I had a bedroom set that was styled in green, cream, white and natural hues. I hung this piece above the double bed in this room display. Once the painting was placed I put a price of $2900.00 on the piece. My staff, again, rolled their eyes. Think 20 something, which was most of my employees. I loved it. It made the room come together in a very sweet way. It has soft hues that tied in great with the bedding & pillows. It even had the same green hue of an upholstered chair in this room.

This is my FAVORITE piece of this color story.

Two weeks later a mother came in with her 12 year old daughter. Her daughter LOVED the painting. Not only did they buy the bedding, the lamps and the accent chair, they bought this art piece. Why share this story.

TO EACH HIS/HER OWN. You never know what is going to move a person when it comes to art pieces. Experiment with your colors, try a color story and then gather your smaller canvas’s and have fun. You never know what piece is going to inspire. Choose 2-5 colors to see how they blend. Use your brushes, use your tools, use your pours, use your imagination. Make your own brand and story with each collection you create.

I often feel insecure with my photography skills when taking pictures of my art pieces. ( will will actually be hiring someone to shoot the pictures.) These pieces I laid on my bed and took pictures with my phone. When I take pictures for my Esty selling sight I take more time and effort to layout and work with lighting. For the purpose of this blog you get the raw unedited version.

I love to write. I heard once, in my early 20’s, that to become a good writer you must write something every single day. Twenty-Five journals later and I am still writing. Painting is the same. You must paint to get better. Paint often.

Can you imagine this piece in a light bright room. A big pop of color and then adding accent pillows with these colors would make any room pop with imagination and styel.

These pieces are available in various sizes. I have listed my standard sizes on my Etsy shop with a price. Please note that the digital picture is as close to the colors as the original. There will always be a slight variation.

Each print is a beautiful canvas wrap with an attached sawtooth hook ready to hang. Once you place your order a letter of authenticity will be emailed to you along with your order. Payment in full is required to place your order.

You can call me to work out a design and size, then Venmo @Elizabeth-Traub Including your email, shipping address and payment.
